The History of My Father Cigars

My Father Cigars stands as one of the most acclaimed brands in the premium cigar industry, renowned for its award-winning blends, impeccable craftsmanship, and bold, full-bodied flavours. With multiple Cigar of the Year titles and a reputation for excellence, the brand has solidified its place among the world’s finest Nicaraguan cigars.

Pepín García’s Cuban Legacy

Born in Baez, Cuba, José “Pepín” García is a highly respected cigar roller and master blender. He started working in Cuban factories as a child and eventually became a key figure in the Cuban cigar industry, responsible for rolling and blending some of the finest cigars from brands like Cohiba and Montecristo. In 2001, Pepín left Cuba for Miami, Florida, where he established a small cigar factory called El Rey de los Habanos in Little Havana. His expertise quickly gained attention, and he began making cigars for brands like Tatuaje (Pete Johnson). His Cuban-style blending and full-bodied Nicaraguan cigars quickly gained a following.

The Birth of My Father Cigars & the Family Business

As demand for Pepín’s cigars grew, his son Jaime García and daughter Janny García joined him in the business. Jaime learned the craft directly from his father, becoming an expert blender in his own right. He plays a major role in developing new blends, ensuring the family’s signature style continues. Janny oversees operations and management, helping the company grow while keeping it a family-run operation.

In 2008, Jaime wanted to honour not just his father, but also his grandfather, Bienvenido García, whose passion for tobacco shaped their family’s legacy. This led to the official launch of My Father Cigars—a name that reflects the deep respect for both Pepín’s expertise and the generations before him. That same year, they expanded operations by opening a state-of-the-art factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, allowing them to grow and control their own tobacco while producing some of the finest premium cigars in the industry.
