E.P. Carrillo La Historia El Senador is a medium-full, box-pressed 5 3/8 x 52 Robusto handmade in the Dominican Republic. Named for Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Sr., who served as a senator in Cuba, it is the shortest regular-production format in the La Historia line and presents its rich Maduro-forward blend in a focused, satisfying size.
A dark, oily Mexican San Andrés Maduro wrapper surrounds an Ecuadorian Sumatra binder and a combination of Dominican and Nicaraguan long fillers. This multi-country blend delivers a rich yet balanced character: the San Andrés wrapper adds cocoa-like sweetness and earth, while the Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos provide structure, roasted-coffee depth and a steady spice presence.
Expect notes of dark cocoa, espresso, earth, leather, oak, black pepper and warm baking spice, with a sweet aroma that carries through its long finish. The profile is medium-full rather than overpowering, offering complexity and concentrated flavour in roughly 55 to 70 minutes.
The 52-ring gauge gives the El Senador ample smoke volume, while its box-pressed shape provides a comfortable feel in the hand and contributes to a controlled, generous draw. It is an excellent option for experienced smokers looking for a rich, polished San Andrés cigar in a classic Robusto format, and it pairs naturally with espresso, a dark rum, bourbon or a chocolate-forward stout.
