Espinosa Laranja Escuro Robusto
- Size: 5 1/2 x 56
- Strength: Full
This 5½″ × 56 (box-pressed) Robusto presents itself with an oily, dark Brazilian Mata Fina wrapper that sets the tone from the first glance. Beneath the wrapper lies a robust Nicaraguan binder and long-filler blend, ensuring a solid draw and even burn throughout.
From the first draw, expect an immersive medium-to-full bodied experience. The profile delivers rich notes of earth, leather, and espresso — grounding the smoke with strength and depth. Dark cocoa and nutty undertones that add sweetness and complexity without the cigar being sweetened artificially. Peppery spice and anise in the retrohale, followed by a subtle burn, giving the smoke both punch and finesse.
The Laranja Escuro takes the acclaimed original Laranja line and elevates it — rather than the lighter “orange-hued” wrapper of the original, the Escuro opts for a deeper maduro wrapper, delivering more intensity without sacrificing the craftsmanship for which Espinosa is known. The result is a cigar that demands presence, yet rewards with balance and refinement.

Pepper bomb at light-up. Eases into dark chocolate and espresso, and subtle sweetness I can’t identify. Pepper stays during the retrohale. I didn’t find it overpowering, but if black pepper bombs aren’t your thing, you may not enjoy it too much. So minor touch-ups on the burn line are needed, but nothing egregious. I liked it more than the knuckle sandwich, which to me was pepper on pepper on pepper.
