About Backwoods Cigars
Are they made in the Dominican Republic or have they been rolled by a Cowboy in the wild west?
The truth is they are made in the Dominican Republic using quality tobacco, which has been aged for a minimum of 12 months to bring out the natural sweetness before the leaves have been enhanced with a sweet flavoring.
The Backwoods cigars were introduced nationally in 1981 and were an overnight success. Their unique structure and look – “WILD & MILD” as it was called, with a frayed end, tapered body and unfinished head, had great appeal to cigar smokers.
Many modern cigars are rolled to a very refined and specific shape, which often compresses the tobacco unevenly across the cigar. The Backwoods are rolled loosely using an even pressure, which results in a rustic looking cigar but draws easily and evenly packing plenty of flavor.

The worst cigar / cigarillo I’ve ever had in my life. And I’ve had some bad, mechanically rolled cigarillos / mini cigars / flavoured cigars before. Where to start: the draw is literally the worst I’ve ever experienced (like trying to suck a vacuum hose); the filler is a lot of twigs and sticks; the “flavouring” is chemical with a horrible after taste. To top it off, I have a headache a half hour after trying one of these. I did try 3 from a package of 5, and quit less than 1/2 way through each (last one I gave up after about 1/5th).
There’s lots of good flavoured cigars, mini cigars and cigarillos out there (I wish the Chief carried more of them); this is definitely the worst I’ve ever, ever had.

It’s funny… I suppose everyone has a different angle on what is classy, and what is not. On what is quality, and what is something that is merely smoke and mirrors… A fugazi, if you will. I’ve been smoking Backwoods cigars since I was 16 years old. I’m 44 now, soon to be 45 in a few months. There is much I have yet to learn, and many things I simply choose to never learn. One thing I do know are Backwoods and other flavoured cigars like Backwoods. After all, I have been smoking them for nearly 30 years now.
I’m not here to tell you that Backwoods are a premium Cuban cigar, a fine smelling corona. They are what they are. Some people call them “gas station cigars”. Some people refer to them as flavoured cigars. They’re flavoured and they’re often found in your local gas stations. If you like flavoured cigarillos with a touch of sweetness, then you’re simply not going to find a better tasting smoke. Backwoods Honey Berry have been around for a long time, at least 25 years now, and I’m willing to bet that they are the top selling Backwoods cigar. If you’ve been around the industry for a quarter century, then you must be doing something right. Listen, if you’re looking for a cigar that pairs well with fine brandy or aged scotch, then maybe you’re looking at the cigar. If you want a mild, semi-sweet flavoured cigar to smoke while you’re out in the boat fishing with friends, grab a Backwoods Honey Berry cigar. You won’t be sorry you did. If you’re having some friends over to watch the hockey game, grab a Backwoods Honey Berry cigar. You won’t be sorry you did. These smell amazing and they taste even better!
I’m not going to lie to you. Sometimes you get a sh!tty pack. Maybe they’re too dry. Perhaps they’re rolled a little too tight. Once in a while, you get a pack that has a few more “twigs” and “sticks” in the tobacco. However, more often than not, you get a mellow, smooth, great tasting cigar that is literally PERFECT for ANY occasion. I enjoy one with a cup of light roasted coffee in the morning while I do my Simpsons Tapped Out on the iPad. I also enjoy smoking one while I’m barbecuing, while I’m breaking down sports stats for a 6:00pm bet, or like I am right now, writing this review. Hey, if you can afford to buy boxes of Cuban cigars and you have a wealthy lifestyle then maybe these cigars aren’t your thing. If you’re like the rest of us who hang out with friends, watch sports, do hobbies or whatever your thing is, and you enjoy a great tasting, mild smoking cigar, then there isn’t a better smoke on the market. These cigars are just that good!

First time trying these and I regret all my decisions. Got a few different flavors and every single pack was rolled so tight it was nearly impossible to smoke. Do yourself a favor and get the other little cigars/cigarillos out there.

The best Backwoods cigar going! I’ve been smoking these for 25 years, it’s true you will get the occasional cigar that is rolled too tight or has a puncture but as for taste and convenience for a quick cigar smoke you won’t be disappointed. My only negative is here in Canada we’re getting hosed on the price, you can buy a carton of 40 cigars at any Wawa convenience store in the US for under $30. There a $100 plus here. Someone making out big time.
