Blackened M81 Toro FreshBox is a full-bodied 6 x 52 Toro handmade in Nicaragua by Drew Estate. Created as a collaboration involving Drew Estate, Metallica’s James Hetfield, and Blackened American Whiskey’s late master distiller Rob Dietrich, M81 is built for smokers who want a dark, powerful, Maduro-forward cigar with substantial body and complexity.
Known as “Maduro to the Core,” Blackened M81 uses a Mexican San Andrés Maduro wrapper, a Connecticut River Valley Broadleaf Maduro binder, and a filler blend of Nicaraguan and Pennsylvania Broadleaf Maduro tobaccos. The all-Maduro construction gives the cigar a dense, deeply saturated profile, while the Toro format offers a smooth draw, thick smoke output, and an extended 60- to 75-minute smoking session.
Expect bold notes of espresso, baker’s cocoa, dark chocolate, leather, charred oak, earth, smoked wood, black pepper, and subtle cinnamon. A natural sweetness develops beneath the spice and dark tobacco intensity, creating a profile reminiscent of a rich mocha accented with pepper. The finish is robust, smoky, and satisfying.

Awesome 3 pack! The Boveda keeps everything fresh. The foot toasted evenly and the draw is effortless. I used a straight cut for my first of the three and will experiment with a V-cut and punch. The first third has earthy notes and a great pepper. It mellows on the second third and has a great leather taste on the retrohale. I’m not typically a medium-full body person, and was surprised to find myself wanting to put this into my line-up. I think this should be in everyone’s humidor and on everyone’s rotation at least once. I paired mine with a nice Blantons bourbon.
