E.P. Carrillo La Historia E-III—often listed by retailers as E-111—is a medium-full, box-pressed 6 7/8 x 54 Toro handmade in the Dominican Republic. It is the largest regular-production format in the La Historia line and was recognized as Cigar Aficionado’s No. 2 Cigar of the Year in 2014.
The blend reflects Ernesto Perez-Carrillo’s family history and signature balancing of multiple tobacco origins. A dark Mexican San Andrés wrapper surrounds an Ecuadorian Sumatra binder and Nicaraguan fillers, producing a deeply aromatic profile with richness, natural sweetness and a steady peppery backbone.
Expect notes of dark cocoa, espresso, earth, oak, cedar, leather, black pepper and dark-fruit sweetness. The cigar opens with a chocolate-and-coffee character, develops more wood, earth and leather through the middle, then finishes with lingering spice and a smooth, sweet Maduro-like depth.
Its longer 6 7/8-inch format offers a slow, cool and deliberate smoking experience, while the 54-ring gauge and box-pressed construction provide a comfortable feel and ample smoke output. E.P. This was so good. Id say well worth the money. Especially even after comparing online cost to retail. Not much difference. Which means its a great cigar. First third is a bit harsh with strong peppers so lost a couple points there but minor. The draw was only a touch looser than Id like but also minor. The label is amazingly detailed. The smoke and flavours that develop are awesome.
Theres only a small selection of cigars that I will pinch with needle nose pliers to finish all the way to the end and this one fits the bill.
Top notch ciggy. Highly recommend and will be getting again for sure!
