The Plasencia Alma del Campo Tribu earned a 92 rating from Cigar Aficionado, and it is the 5 x 52 Robusto in the Alma del Campo line. Alma del Campo means “soul of the field,” and the blend is a Nicaraguan puro, with wrapper, binder and filler all grown and aged on the Plasencia family’s own farms, using Criollo ’98 filler. The strength is pulled back from the Alma Fuerte, which makes it smooth and approachable.
The first third opens with cedar, mixed fruit and creamy white pepper. Roasted nuts, coffee, cocoa and vanilla build through the middle, and the finish adds nougat, caramel, nutmeg and a toasty touch of wheat. The draw is open and easy, and the cigar burns evenly with plenty of smoke.
The 5 x 52 format suits a smoke of under an hour. The box of 10 has a lid that separates and serves as an ashtray, with four cutouts and a metal Plasencia logo. It is hand rolled with long filler at the Plasencia factory in Nicaragua.
