The Plasencia Alma del Fuego Concepción is a box pressed 6 x 54 Toro built on tobacco from the volcanic soil of Ometepe Island. The island’s leaf supplies one of the two binders and about half of the filler, and Plasencia aged it for seven years. The rest of the blend is Nicaraguan from Jalapa, under a sun grown Jalapa wrapper in a reddish brown shade, so the cigar is a full Nicaraguan puro.
The smoke opens with roasted coffee, black pepper and earth, along with cinnamon and a hint of habanero heat. The middle moves to dark chocolate, dried fruit, leather and cashew, and the finish is sweet, nutty and spicy, with tangerine and guava wood notes. Strength and flavour build slowly, and the profile stays balanced rather than harsh.
The box press gives the cigar a slightly squared shape, which sits comfortably in the hand. The 54 ring gauge gives about an hour of smoking. It is hand rolled with long filler at the Plasencia factory in Nicaragua.
