The Plasencia Cosecha 149 La Vega is a 5 x 52 Robusto from Plasencia’s first all Honduran puro, made with tobacco from the family’s 149th harvest in 2014. A dark, oily Olancho San Agustín wrapper covers a Jamastran binder and a filler blended from Jamastran, Talanga and Olancho leaf. The tobacco has been aged since harvest, which gives the blend a deep, well fermented character.
The first third opens with black pepper, cedar and baking spice, and a little leather. As the cigar settles, earth and espresso come in, followed by walnut cream, dark chocolate and a touch of raisin sweetness. The finish is long and toasty, with oak and spice, and the cigar draws and burns evenly.
La Vega is slightly box pressed, which gives it a comfortable feel in the hand. It is hand rolled with long filler at the Plasencia factory in Honduras. Each cigar carries a black and white band with copper accents.

Paul Papadopoulos –
Maduro lovers looking for something in the same ballpark, but with a little variation? This is a great choice. Black pepper, but not to harsh, throughout. Notes of roasted coffee, leaning towards burnt bean at times. Baking spice, but I couldn’t figure out exactly which one. Coffee and some cream in the back half, with the sweetness coming through towards the end. Great pairing stick. I had a cream soda with this, but I’d like to try this with a smokey whiskey.
