The Plasencia Alma Fuerte Generación V Salomón placed number 9 on Cigar Aficionado’s 2017 Top 25 list with a 93 rating. It is a box pressed 7 x 58 Salomón, a tapered shape with curves at both ends, in honour of five generations of the Plasencia family. A dark, oily Jalapa wrapper covers a Nicaraguan binder and filler that blend aged tobacco from Condega, Estelí, Jalapa and Ometepe, with Criollo ’98 as the main component.
The smoke opens with earth, roasted nuts and dark cocoa, with black pepper and a refined natural sweetness. Leather, toast and oak build through the middle, and the finish carries dark chocolate and sweet spice. The strength rises to medium to full in the last third, and the flavours stay cohesive throughout.
The large 58 ring gauge produces dense smoke, and this shape needs some time to warm up and begin steady combustion. A smoke takes two hours or more. It is hand rolled with long filler at the Plasencia factory in Nicaragua.
