1491 Toro by Privada
- Size: 6 x 50
- Strength: Medium
Pure, indigenous Dominican tobacco. That is 1491. This is not a blend. This is what happens when you take the original Dominican Corojo tobacco and simply make a cigar with it. This is the closest possible modern interpretation of what the great Taíno people, native to the Caribbean, were smoking before Columbus arrived. This is how amazing Dominican tobacco really is, in its purest form. These would be the cigars of a cacique– a Taíno chief.

Good construction, but this is an insane pepper bomb. The retro was like a shot of spice through each nose hair.
Good for those who love spice, for those who don’t, steer clear of this one.

Didnt think the flavors melded well…not for me

cocoa, leather, and a touch of pepper, complemented by a smooth, even burn. These surprised me.

Had to treat these cigars when they were delivered, spent a month in a Boveda recovery bag and a couple of weeks in a controlled humidor.
Even after treatment I found this one harsh, not a medium cigar. Flavors did not come through as cleanly as desired.

Hi
I brought a box of those in September 2024 ,at first I find them to harsh and lacking proper resting time. Now April 2025 and I have a completely different appreciation for this box. Such a great construction, this aboriginal Dominican tobacco burn really slowly to form a very sharp burn line. The pepper is very strong and something else is lingering in the background. I still think they will get better with time

Even after a very long time resting in the humidor and smoked multiple times to see if it was a dud but This is a powerful rough around the edges cigar very peppery and has lots of bitter sour orange flavour . Burn can be troublesome to say the least. I think this is all just a marketing ploy and nothing indigenous about it the brand owner is just using the word to make it sound special.
