Asylum Straight Jacket – August 2024 LCA Release
- Size: 7 x 48
- Strength: Medium-Full
Asylum Straight Jacket is a calculated restraint—a powerful blend forged through disciplined design. Created in partnership with Asylum Cigars and released via LCA in August 2024, this corona gorda hides its intensity behind a brooding San Andrés Maduro wrapper. It’s the cigar you’d choose when you need focus, not escape—the strap-in for flavor without release. In Privada, we value curated tension, and this cigar delivers it in spades.
From the first light, black pepper and dense leather dominate, pressing forward with bold intent. Soon, espresso crema and charcoal oak deepen the experience. Mid-smoke layers pistachio and cocoa nib emerge softly under the surface, while the core is held together by baking spices and earthy backbone. The final third shifts toward subtle molasses sweetness, with lingering char and leather transporting the palate to a sturdy, smoky finish. It’s intense yet composed, rugged yet measured.
Because Straight Jacket is discipline realized in tobacco form. It’s not designed to unwind—it’s designed to hold. Built for focused, ritual smoking and crafted with purpose, it epitomizes Privada’s appreciation for restraint fused with indulgence. When every puff counts, this cigar proves that structure can create satisfaction as profound as freedom.

It’s a really nice cigar. Solid construction, nothing to complain about, with a draw that’s just right and produces thick, consistent smoke all the way through. It starts off fairly mild, in the medium-light range, very smooth and easygoing, then builds in intensity. The progression is well done, becoming richer as it goes, and finishing full-bodied with a lot of dense smoke. It’s the kind of cigar you don’t want to put down in the end.
I smoked it near the end of march 2026. In the prime range, just need some stabilization time in the humidor to be perfect.
