Dunhill My Mixture Baby’s Bottom 1938
Dunhill My Mixture BB1938, originally known as “Baby’s Bottom,” is a classic pipe tobacco blend that was first introduced in 1938 by H.L. Savory & Co. Ltd., a London tobacconist with a history dating back to 1885. In 1932, Dunhill acquired Savory’s, and the blend was rebranded as My Mixture BB1938 to align with Dunhill’s naming conventions.
Blend Composition
BB1938 is a medium-strength mixture primarily composed of red Virginia tobaccos, complemented by bronze and lemon Virginias, and a generous portion of Cypriot Latakia. The blend is presented in a ribbon cut and is known for its smooth, mellow smoke with a rich, smoky base and subtle spicy notes.
Flavor Profile
The blend offers a complex flavor profile with woody, smoky, and tannin-rich notes. While it may appear mild due to its name, BB1938 is considered a full-bodied and robust smoke, suitable for experienced smokers. The careful selection of Virginias and the inclusion of Latakia result in a smooth and cool smoking experience.
Legacy and Availability
Production of BB1938 ceased when Murray’s took over blending duties for Dunhill brands. The blend was reintroduced in 2015 but was discontinued again when Dunhill decided to stop producing pipe tobacco. As of now, there are no official plans to re-release BB1938. However, some remaining tins are still available from select retailers.
