Joya de Nicaragua Antaño Gran Consul

Nicaraguan Strong
Spicy and Robust. Antaño, in Spanish, literally means “yesteryear”, a word that expresses the soul of the Joya de Nicaragua Antaño 1970. We crafted this cigar as a tribute to the power and essence of the “Puro” that helped build our legendary brand.
Made exclusively by hand and entirely of Nicaraguan harvested tobaccos, this cigar is an ultra robust spicy smoke with earthy finish, unbridled body and aroma, which showcases the authentic Nicaraguan “Puro”.
Joya de Nicaragua Clásico was the very first national “Puro” exported from Nicaragua, and for a long time the only cigar in the Joya de Nicaragua portfolio.

I have never thought the need to write a review before, and I smoke a lot of cigars and a lot of different types, sizes, from different regions, etc. These little gems are by far the best cigar I have ever smoked. Smooth the entire way through, perfect burn, tightly made but with a perfect draw. Now I have to try more in the Antano line. Highly recommend. Very woody and hints of chocolate and cinsistent throughout.

I bought a few sticks to try out. After about 4 months in my humidor (69% humidity), I had my first one, and it is full-bodied and stronger than what I usually smoke (CAO Brazilia Go!).
The first third really burned the inside of my mouth and tongue. The second third and third third were less strong. I needed to adjust the burn a few times; the cigar did have some tunneling issues at different lengths along the cigar. I had to take puffs more often, as it tended to go out.
This might be a nice evening cigar paired with a peaty scotch or strong bourbon. Since I had this one in the afternoon, I paired it with a hearty red wine.
I will leave these a few more months in my humidor before trying another to see if they get better. Don’t know yet if I will buy more.

Added bonus: The original cigar ban was under the Canadian Government’s awful-looking cigar band.
