Rocky Patel Vintage 2003 Cameroon Robusto

This is one of my go-to cigars.
Semi firm squeeze to it, with a medium veined, slightly marbled outer wrapper.
Before lighting, a pungent, almost dirty laundry smell to it, mixed with baseball glove cowhide.
A dry puff gives a strong chewing tobacco flavour. With notes of dark berries.
1st third. A taste of rich smokey aged oak. Hints of overdone raisin bread. A fantastic build there gives a very satisfying draw. A perfect balance that provides a mouthful of smoke without being too hot.
2nd third. The oak intensifies and mingles with leather and earth tones. Not a rough leather though, more like a smooth suede that has been cared for and kept supple through gently use. The cigar maintains its flawless burn, the ash only falls with a firm tap, not on its own.
Final third. As much as it saddens me that all good things must come to an end, this cigar wraps thing up like a well written novel. The wooden tones develop into a spicy cedar. The leather becomes more pronounced and sweeter, like an unseasoned beef jerky. The flavours continue to intensify until the final, finger stinging puffs, wrap all the flavours up in a mahogany box and bury then in a moist freshly turned organic matter laden soil. The final whisps of smoke whispering to the tip of my nose a gentle “thank you” for traveling on this smoking journey.
