AJ Fernandez New World Belicoso, also known as the Almirante, is a rich, medium-to-full-bodied Nicaraguan puro created by AJ Fernandez and his father, Ismael Fernandez. This box-pressed 5 1/2 x 55 Belicoso combines a dark, oily Nicaraguan Oscuro wrapper with a Jalapa binder and a carefully aged core of Nicaraguan long fillers from Estelí, Condega, and Ometepe.
The tapered Belicoso head allows for a precise cut and a concentrated opening draw, while the broad 55 ring gauge opens the blend into a full, generous smoke. Estelí ligero from Finca Soledad brings strength and pepper, Condega ligero contributes body and spice, and Ometepe viso adds earthy sweetness and depth.
Expect notes of espresso, dark chocolate, cedar, leather, toasted nuts, caramel, earth, black pepper, cinnamon, charred oak, and subtle herbal sweetness. The box-pressed format sits comfortably in the hand and supports a slow, even burn.
